Description
Kristalna Ideja ltd. was established in 2013 with the main purpose of identifying, researching and developing solutions that significantly contribute to the quality of life by reducing environmental pollutants. The primary focus is analysing, supervising, and acting on air pollution threats. In 2018 the company developed innovative modular iTherapy® interior air purification technology which became our base for existing products. Encouraged by success, in 2021, the company started to develop technology for ambient air purification to achieve full air management cycle control. The next step for the company is to implement green technology into production and business management.
Currently the company is using air filters bought from abroad (China) for its air purifiers. The purpose of this project is to establish air filter production in company’s premises and switch to innovative bio-based air filters. That will be acomplished by purchasing new machines. Label for bio-based product is also planed for gaining the consumer trust. Investment in equipment for production of bio-based filters will lead to implementation of new technologies and will increase the competitiveness of the company. It will also differentiate and expand company’s product portfolio on the market by new labeled bio-based product, which will lead to increased revenue and profit for the company. By implementing this project, company''s production capacity and efficiency will grow and the carbon footprint per unit air filter will be reduced due to avoided long transport from China. Waste material will be reduced due to avoided damage that happens regularly in transport.
Summary of project results
The project tackled the critical issue of indoor air pollution, which is recognized globally as a major environmental health risk. By developing a more effective and innovative green solution - air filter, the project aimed to improve indoor air quality and reduce the health impacts associated with air contaminants. It met the growing market demand for environmentally friendly, bio-based products. By creating air filters composed of 90% bio-based materials, the project aligned with the increasing consumer and regulatory preference for sustainable solutions. The project resolved the challenge of high production costs and significant CO2 emissions associated with long-distance shipping by relocating production in-house. This shift not only cut costs but also minimized the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process. By establishing local production, the project reduced dependency on foreign suppliers, which decreased operational costs and improved market competitiveness.
The project focused on setting up a new production line for air filters made from bio-based materials. This involved acquiring and installing specialized equipment necessary for the manufacturing process. The team developed and tested prototypes of the new air filter to ensure they met the required performance standards. This stage was critical for refining the product design and ensuring its effectiveness in air filtration. By moving the production of air filters to the company''s own facilities, the project aimed to streamline operations and reduce dependency on external suppliers. This transition allowed for greater control over the production process and quality. The project implemented various technologies, such as automated dosing machines and packaging, to enhance production efficiency and improve performance. The project also enabled the company to offer customizable biobased air filters tailored to different sizes and specifications. This customization addressed specific market needs and opened new opportunities for product differentiation. The team also promoted the company''s new solution through web, videos and brochures.
For the Company: The project successfully developed innovative air filter composed of bio-based materials. This innovative product meets the increasing demand for sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions in air filtration. The team managed to use PLA materials for filter frames and natural materials actually filter the air which made the solution even more than 90% biobased. The company will experience growth in revenue and profit, driven by the new product''s success and enhanced market positioning.
For Employees: Enhanced the knowledge and experience, creating new job opportunities in the following years.
For the Environment: The shift to bio-based materials and the in-house production setup reduced the company’s carbon footprint. The move also led to a notable decrease in CO2 emissions associated with production and transportation.
For Customers: The introduction of customizable and highly efficient air filters opened up new market opportunities. Investors and construction companies involved in sustainable building projects will found value in integrating the new, eco-friendly air filters into their designs. Individuals, particularly those with respiratory issues, will benefit from improved indoor air quality and healthier living environments. Organizations in sectors such as hospitality, education, and healthcare are gaining access to advanced air filtration solutions that enhance air quality and energy efficiency in their spaces.
