Description
Delicia is a micro company that has been operating more than a quarter of a century. It is a producer of sugar free and organic biscuits, therefore, their target market implies consumers of healthy products. Most of their revenues come from domestic market, but export is growing, and in future, Delicia wants to focus more on external markets.
About the Project
Delicia achieved high productivity for single packed biscuits packaging, and for packaging of such biscuits it uses fast packaging machine ("flow pack"). However they didn''t increase productivity for other products packaging, neither for cooling of baked biscuits. A challenge is also how to achieve higher productivity in packing of organic biscuits, which is still mostly done by hand.
This project is about the investment into several pieces of equipment that will enable the company to solve the issue of low productivity, but also reduce the unit costs of its product, and therefore boost its competitiveness.
Namely, the project is about investment into the following:
a) packaging line for sugar free biscuits,
b) cartoning line for organic biscuits
c) Cooling chamber with autonomus cooling device
d) larger planetary mixer (160 liters instead 100),
e) modern, energy efficient oven driven by LPG instead by light fuel oil.
It is expected that the investment will lead to increased competitiveness of the company, not only on Croatian market, but also on European market. As a result, the company expects to sell more products in neighboring countries – Slovenia, Italy and Austria.
As a result, it is expected that operational revenues and operational profit will increase, and that company will generate new employments.
Summary of project results
Before this project, the company faced rising labor costs, making it difficult to remain competitive without increasing productivity. Also, limited production and storage space restricted the company''s ability to produce and store larger batches, leading to inefficiencies. Lastly, compostable packaging, while more sustainable, was labor-intensive and costly, further exacerbating the productivity issue.
To resolve these issues, company invested in the following equipment:
- Dough mixer and rotating oven
- Cooling chamber with autonomous cooling device
- Packaging and weighing line with compostable trays detaching device
- Cartoning line.
Also, as the new equipment needed more space, Delicia also invested into new, much bigger facilities.
After investing into new equipment, Delicia significantly increased its productivity, is able to develop new products, and reduce the labor and energy costs per product. The company has also managed to replace artificial packaging with compostable materials, which enhances its sustainability and competitiveness in the market.
Company itself is the greatest beneficiary of this project, through improved efficiency and international competitiveness, but also consumers who have access to more sustainable and lower-cost organic and sugar-free products
