Description
The project consists in training the staff of the project promoter in green innovative technologies and products, in order to integrate energy saving and emission reduction technologies in the shipyards Onex manages. The training will be carried out in Norway by the Vard Group, a shipbuilding company with great experience in green shipbuilding. The training programme will consist in workshops, training-in-house, and site visits to shipyards in Norway. The trainees will then act as coaches, train the rest of the personnel and shipyards'' clients interested in adopting these innovative technologies and products in their existing and new fleets.
Summary of project results
The modernization and the efficient technological upgrading of shipyards’ total infrastructure in respect to the principles of sustainable development is a necessary condition, in order to transform shipyards into a green shipping repair hub in the whole Southeast Mediterranean region. At the same time, European policy requires the reduction of CO2 emissions in shipping and sets very ambitious targets that presuppose the incorporation of green technologies/products in shipyards. As a result, it was necessary for the promoter''s personnel, which operate shipyards, to be trained in innovative technologies and products that contribute to the greening of shipbuilding and shipyards.
The training programme, which was developed through the project, aimed at supporting the promoter to develop the necessary skills to address European maritime policy purposes for energy efficiency and low emissions ships, was thus necessary.
The project consists in training the promoter''s staff in green innovations (technical innovations aimed at the reduction of exhaust gas emissions NOx, SOx and CO2) related to shipbuilding.
A training programme was developed in order to upgrade ONEX employees’ skills in green shipbuilding. Webinars and workshops were organised on green shipbuilding topics. The trainers came from the Norwegian Vard Group’s shipyard. Study visits were also carried out at Norwegian shipyards in order to learn how to successfully integrate green technologies in shipbuilding. Finally, capitalization labs were organized during which the trained Onex personnel by VARD, trained 60 employees from Onex Shipyards, in green industry products and technologies.
The project enabled the promoter to develop the necessary skills to address strict policies regarding the decarbonisation of the maritime shipping sector, maintaining & repairing energy efficient and low emission ships. The implementation of the project supported the successful operation of the promoter''s shipyards in green growth principles.
The aim was to transform the shipyards into a green shipping hub that will support commercial shipping horizontally, energy transition, defense platforms and industrial solutions, leading the entire industrial ecosystem of the region, and strengthening both the economy and the geopolitical position of Greece.
