Greek SMEs are lagging behind in terms of Industry 4.0 technologies adoption. The current proposal is an effort to raise awareness in innovative technologies that can be adopted from Greek SMEs and the upskilling of the personnel.

The project consists in the training in Industry 4.0 technologies for the personnel of I4byDesign by the Donor Partner. The topics include Additive Manufacturing and Circular Economy, Robotics and Digitalization Tools and Frameworks. The partner will organise a study visit in Norway, where the promoter will meet with Norwegian companies, be informed in new technologies and strategies. The promoter will also collect data and analyse the Greek market, in order to identify shortages in terms of technologies, strategies, environmental awareness and female entrepreneurship. I4byDesign will organize 4 targeted workshop which will raise awareness, inform Greek SMEs on new technologies and business strategies, bring companies together and give opportunities for enhanced collaboration with Norwegian partners.

The project will lead to the transfer of knowledge and expertise from the Norwegian Partner to I4byDesign; this will help the promoter adopt the latest technologies and methodologies. As a result, the project will increase the promoter''s competitiveness and establish it as a key player in Industry 4.0 technologies. The training will contribute to upskilling of personnel and increase Greek SMEs'' efficiency and competitiveness. The project will raise awareness and promote female entrepreneurship, as well as enhance business collaboration between Greek and Norwegian enterprises.

The partner NTNU will provide competence to the promoter, which brings value to the project objectives and the successful implementation of the project.

Summary of project results

Greek SMEs are lagging behind in terms of Industry 4.0 technologies adoption. Main reason is the lack of knowledge and expertise, but also the lack of specialized personnel that can operate those technologies. The current proposal is an effort to raise awareness in innovative technologies that can be adopted from Greek SMEs as well as the upskilling of the personnel.

The main objective of the Project was the transfer of know-how from the Norwegian ecosystem to Greek SMEs. NTNU trained I4byDesign personnel in emerging Industry 4.0 technologies: Additive manufacturing & Circular Economy; Digitalization Tools & Frameworks; Robotics for Manufacturing. Then, the trained personnel, alongside the Norwegian trainers, trained Greek SMEs in the same topics by organizing a series of workshops.
In addition, a workshop in “Female Entrepreneurship & Gender Equality in Workplace” took place in the framework of the exhibition ‘BEYOND EXPO 2024’ held in Thessaloniki (North Greece) in April 2024.
Moreover, the project provided networking opportunities for Greek and Norwegian companies. This was enhanced during the study visit in Norway where I4byDesign representatives met with companies in Raufoss, Gjovik.

The project increased the capacity building of Greek SMEs, as it trained them in Industry 4.0 technologies. It also enhanced networking and collaboration between Greek and Norwegian companies.

Summary of bilateral results

The project provided I4byDesign with valuable opportunities to familiarize itself with the Norwegian academic and industrial ecosystem. Collaboration with NTNU was essential, allowing the promoter to observe their approach to emerging technologies, identify best practices, and gain insight into ongoing work in Norway. NTNU trained I4byDesign personnel and facilitated communication with Norwegian companies in Raufoss. Specifically, a study visit to Norway was organised, where the promoter visited the industrial park Raufoss and met with several companies utilizing new and emerging technologies and had productive discussions on best practices, business models, and innovative market approaches. Furthermore, representatives from NTNU participated in the workshops organized in Thessaloniki.
