Description

The project “Green Offspring” is an investment in a new, environmentally friendly printing machine for the PressiousArvanitidis, to increase production capacity and to reach new market segments. The machine will allow the production of conductive ink paper material and digital paper; in other words, it will enable the company to print books and paper material with novel characteristics and features, and thus access a new market segment. The novel printing machine will reduce the company''s environmental footprint significantly due to its use of less electrical power and reduction of waste. Through the project, approximately 5 new jobs will be created. Additionally, PressiousArvanitidis will increase its revenues and competitiveness.

Summary of project results

The printing industry is going through a technological transformation, moving towards the adoption of new digital technology. So the promoter moved towards a solution which would enable it to target new market segments that require novel product types (e.g. printing products with conductive ink and packaging) while addressing the challenge of maintaining both its market position and increasing its profitability in an industry undergoing a landmark change.

Simultaneously, the EU has set a target of climate neutrality by 2050, following the recommendations of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which considers carbon neutrality to be necessary within this timeframe. The new printer is one of the few in Europe to have a carbon neutral footprint (significantly reducing the waste of the raw materials used during the printing process).

The project consisted in procuring, installing and setting-up a new printing machine (Heidelberg Speedmaster XL106 machine), which enables the company to produce conductive ink paper material, thus diversifying the company''s product portfolio.

The enhanced paper packaging capabilities of the new printing machine enables the development of new products (conductive ink paper products and digital printing products) and augmented printing speed, thus leading to higher productivity, increased competitiveness and expansion of the company''s operational capacity as well as customer network.

Furthermore, the new printing machine also produces significantly less waste and needs less electrical power to operate, thus reducing the CO2 emissions associated with the printing processes as well as contributing towards achieving the environmental footprint reduction goals of the company.
