Description

SQLearn is particularly active within the maritime industry as a provider of e-learning solutions and services that address the training needs and requirements of the industry.

Maritime safety remains one of the most important issues facing the shipping industry, which is exposed to challenging conditions, such as operations in dangerous environments. Training of personnel is therefore a great expense and priority for the industry.

The project Brave Dolphin is expected to help provide a useful training tool that will better train seafarers with the necessary knowledge and requirements of the industry on specific issues mainly related to safety procedures on emergencies that might occur onboard as well as on the use of particular machinery. It consists in developing a series of interactive and illustrative training modules using Virtual Reality (VR) technology, in order to respond to the training needs of the maritime industry. This technology offers the ability to simulate real-case scenarios in a virtual world where the seafarers can interact allowing them to absorb the required knowledge in a more comprehensive way. The training could also be accessible ashore.

The outcome of Brave Dolphin would be increased competitiveness of enterprises in the beneficiary country. More in detail, reduction of costs related to crew training on safety issues, fire accident damages and ensuing fines, and costs in terms of human lives or environmental disasters.

Summary of project results

The 4 VR training modules aimed at the shipping industry were successfully developed and presented at the Posidonia international maritime exhibition in May 2022.
