Description
The project’s direct objective is the development of the historical building located in the Võru old town heritage conservation area at 52 Fr. R. Kreutzwald Street (former guest house “London”) to become an outstanding modern and attractive guesthouse and teleworking centre.
The expected results of the project include:
1) A unique building in Võru old town has been taken into use in new public functions, creating good prerequisites to improve the living and business environment.
2) Services provided in the building correspond to the expectations of local people and spark travel motivation in the current and future visitors of Võru. Among other things, the modern “guest house” offers cheap short-term accommodation to families with children who have moved away from Võru (who do not fit into their relatives’ places) as well as good healthy food to locals and visitors.
3) The teleworking office service has filled a void in the city and helps to enliven the local business landscape. To make Freinhold House more famous and boost the reputation of Võru region as a good place for living and working, a collaboration platform with Southeast Estonia’s teleworking places network.
4) As a new service and an event venue, the so-called food academy has been added as a place for learning to cook. Good prerequisites for using the object as a traineeship location for chefs to-be and serious cooking enthusiasts have been created.
5) The local youth has a stronger connection with their hometown. Starting to use the building in an attractive way has increased the general interest in local architectural heritage.
The long-term objective of the company founded after the building was purchased is to fix up the Kreutzwaldi 52 and 52a building complex and transform it into an attractive visitor centre for different target groups in Võru and the surrounding areas, for the visitors of the nearby cultural centre as well as for visitors and tourists who come to Võru.
Summary of project results
The project’s objective was to renovate and develop the historical building located in the Võru old town heritage conservation area at 52 Fr. R. Kreutzwald Street (former guest house “London”) into a modern and attractive guesthouse and teleworking centre.
The achieved project results include:
1) A unique building in Võru old town has been renovated and taken into use in new public functions, creating good prerequisites to improve the living and business environment.
2) Restaurant "Pauline" has been opened in the building.
3) As a new service and an event venue, the so-called food academy has been added as a place for learning to cook. Good prerequisites for using the object as a traineeship location for chefs to-be and serious cooking enthusiasts have been created.
4) The teleworking corner will fill a void in the city and helps to enliven the local business landscape.
The building has brought back to life.
As a next step, modern “guest house” flats will be built and furnished at the 2nd floor. It will offer short-term accommodation to to locals and visitors. Tight cooperation will be continued with cultural centre "Kannel", a local venue for theatre, music, cinema etc, that is located approx. 50 m away from the building.
