Description
The objective of the project is to support each student in making a career choice and increase the flexibility of the organisation of studies by implementing the vocational orientation curriculum - student-centred on one side and flexible on the teachers'' side when teaching and making aware the need for an individual approach to the student.
The purpose of the grant is to support the continuation of education or form readiness for labour market after basic school of young people of low level of education and those who belong to a risk group. Approximately 12% of the persons who have quit vocational studies do not continue their studies during the same year, which as compared to the upper secondary school’s 1%, is a significant share. Mostly, studies at a vocational education institution are quit during the first school year. Overall, leaving vocational studies has remained at 20% during the past ten years and very often the main reason for quitting is the wrong choice of speciality.
As a result of the project, the activities implemented enhance the young person’s readiness to continue their studies or enter the labour market during the vocational orientation year. Altogether 22 training places in two academic years have been created and implemented in partnership with Räpina School of Horticulture. Räpina also acts as a mentor for Valga county Vocational Training Centre as they have experience in developing a vocational orientation programme.
