Description

Project aims to develop two new solar roof products: a metal solar tile product (integrated PERC monocrystalline cells) and click concept metal panel (integrated PERC monocrystalline cells). Innovative solar roof replaces traditional solar (PV) panels with a 2in1 roofing solution that produces electricity across the thin PV layer that covers the metal sheet. This makes installing our solar roof the same as installing any regular metal roof. NEW Solar tile and click type panels would be easier and cheaper to install.

Innovation lies in integrating PV elements with different metal roof profiles. Today, our solar metal roof module combines traditional steel roofing material and monocrystalline silicon cells used in high-end traditional solar panels.

Main target groups are households and building owners (private or public), who want to contribute fighting climate change by having their own “green energy station” ie metal solar roof. New products make it possible to choose between 3 different types (double seam, metal tile like and click). The environmental effect can be achieved globally, since the building material is universal and applicable in different climates and geographical locations.

Summary of project results

Project was targeted to increase the product range of metal panels that produce solar electricity. The aim was to develop two new electricity-generating roof profiles that would allow people to generate solar electricity on their roofs and thus reduce the global CO2 impact. The positive environmental impact of each 10 kW (approx. 66 m2) solar roof during the life of the roof (30+ years) is estimated to be the same as if a person did not drive a car 78 times around the globe.

3 new products were developed in the period 2020-2023: ClicSeam profile, wide Click profile and narrow NuClick profile. During 2021, the first pilot roofs with Roofit.Solar ClicSeam roof profiles were installed in Sweden. In the summer of 2022, pilot roofs with a wide Click profile were erected near Otepää and Kuusalu in Estonia. The first pilot roofs with the NuClick profile were installed in Tallinn and on an environmentally friendly bicycle shed near the Roofit.Solar factory building. Following the successful pilot roofs, sales of ClicSeam and Click products began already in 2022. Mass production of the narrow two-column NuClick roof profile began at the end of 2023.

With the product development, Project Promoter aimed to expand the selection of metal roof panels that produce solar electricity. With these new products, more people will be able to go solar and start producing sustainable energy on their rooftops – thus reducing the amount of fossil-powered electricity and CO2 emissions.

Feedback from homeowners, architects, cooperation partners and roof installers to the new products has been positive. An important value is the impact of new environmentally friendly roofing materials on the architecture of cities and villages. Roofit.Solar roof profiles prevent visual pollution that can be caused by traditional solar panels installed separately on the roof. In the case of Roofit.Solar roof profiles, the solar modules are integrated with the traditional steel roofing material, and the result is a uniform roof profile, in which the electricity-producing solar modules do not stand out from a distance.

As a result of the project, 8 new jobs were created as the social impact of the project. Project also had a direct environmental impact, which can be measured in CO2 equivalents as well as energy savings. Also, grant has created direct economic impact for the industry.
