Description

The aim of the project is to develop the capacity of the Open Education Association to provide training for adults, which requires updating the teaching methodology and curricula, and creating a modern learning environment, which includes IT solutions.  Our main target group are residents of the Tartu region, who have a need and desire to improve their social skills, particularly in the areas of civic education, personal development, and social skills, in order to cope better in their personal, social and professional life.

1. To develop new fields of study, in particular in the areas of civic education, personal development, basic skills and social skills, a curriculum consisting of 3-4 (several modules) and new teaching methodologies will be developed for each area (area of study) considering both for digital and online learning.

2. Modern training activities are based on a good and comfortable learning environment, both physical and online. To create that, there is a need for new IT solution in the classroom, which requires a secure internet connection and a local computer network. For e-learning, it is necessary to introduce a new projection technique, a touch-screen whiteboard with software solutions. Software for digital learning and online learning (including hybrid learning) will also be developed. To improve the organization of learning, it will be necessary to set up a separate, secure, e-learning room on the association website.

These new facilities will create excellent opportunities for successful learning and ensure a creative and inspiring learning environment for learners and trainers. Trainings in such an environment are effective.

Summary of project results

The aim of the development project was to build the capacity of the Open Education Association to deliver training to full-time students in an efficient and modern way. This involved updating teaching methodologies and curricula and creating an IT-enabled learning environment.

A fibre-optic cable was installed in the building, and a secure, high-speed Wi-Fi solution was implemented in the classroom to provide a reliable internet connection for web-enabled learning. Hybrid and web-based learning solutions, including Zoom and Google platforms, were introduced to enhance digital learning capabilities.

These newly implemented solutions were immediately integrated into training sessions conducted in the autumn of 2023. Their adoption is expected to enhance the flexibility of course delivery for both learners and trainers, as well as for the institution as a whole. The improved digital infrastructure will contribute to more efficient learning processes and better educational outcomes by allowing for the customization of learning materials and methods to align with individual learner needs and preferences.

Furthermore, the integration of both in-person and e-learning tools offers the institution the opportunity to optimize training delivery while reducing associated costs.

In support of curriculum development, new study programs were designed, particularly in the fields of civic education, personal development, basic skills, and social skills. For each of these subject areas, three to four curricula were developed, and teaching methodologies were updated to incorporate advancements in digital and e-learning opportunities.

The newly implemented solutions will advance the organization''s training activities to the next stage of development.

  1. The introduction of hybrid learning expands access to training programs, enabling participation for individuals who are unable to attend in person. This includes people with disabilities, parents with young children, and those without access to transportation.
  2. The participant base for training programs will broaden, and the diversity of training topics will increase.
  3. Equally important is the enhancement of learning and digital skills acquired through training, which will improve daily life competencies and support the development of values shared by Estonia and Europe.
  4. Participants will gain better awareness of current events both in Estonia and globally.
  5. Beyond curriculum-based training, civic awareness will be strengthened, encouraging individuals to engage in future online training programs, educational events, public discussions, community activities, and meetings. Additionally, digital literacy will improve, benefiting both personal and societal engagement.

Information about new learning methods and opportunities will be incorporated into training projects and invitations. This information will also be shared with collaboration partners and classroom renters. Updates on new projects and training initiatives will be communicated via the organization''s website and social media channels.

Furthermore, all training spaces will be equipped with web-streaming capabilities, with access to the institution''s e-learning platform available as needed.
