Description
The aim of the project is to develop the capacity of Estonian student unions to fulfil its main goal, to represent the interests of students in a democratic and transparent way and to engage them in decision-making processes in their universities. There will be trainings for heads of student unions and activists on advocacy and support services for student unions on mobilising students. Lesser experienced student unions will receive support in launching their advocacy activities. The Federation will also put together a manual for student unions that will maintain the knowledge for future student union managements.
Summary of project results
The aim of the project was to enhance the advocacy capabilities of the student unions in Estonia in order to create more know-how and skills among the active members of the student movement to foster the ability to stand and fight for student rights. Subgoals of the project were indicated as following:
- creating enough knowledge about advocacy in student unions
- supporting unions in their activities to engage students in decision-making
- supporting smaller unions in developing structures and capabilities for advocacy.
To achieve these goals, the Federation of Estonian Student Unions (EÜL) organised a training programme for student unions, which involved lessons and trainings on necessary skills and knowledge for the advocation students’ rights. The following trainings and events were carried out as project activities:

From the training materials, EÜL created an advocacy manual for student unions, which is available for free on EÜL’s webpage. The manual will help EÜL to sustain and distribute the know-how of the trainings among the new members of the Estonian student unions.
