Towards Mutual Understanding project focuses on increasing the inclusion and status of Roma and improving relations between the Roma minority and the majority in the Vítkov region. The aim of the project is to support the target group mainly through the implementation of these interrelated key activities: 1) Implementation of community work in the BnB, 2) Support for Roma leaders and the creation of a Roma platform and 3) Implementation of educational and awareness-raising events to improve the image of Roma in Vítkov.
The aim of the project is to contribute to the activation and empowerment of Roma in Budišov nad Budišovkou as the creation of competent communities, strengthening the position of Roma leaders and developing their skills in negotiating and promoting their own interests, supporting the establishment and functioning of individual Roma platforms and contributing to relations between the Roma minority and the majority.
Summary of project results
The project contributed to the activation and empowerment of Roma in Budišov and to creation of a competent community that already established its own Roma organization. Thanks to the involvement of community members in the project''s activities, the position of the Roma was strengthened and their competences in the field of negotiation and promotion of their own interests developed. The goal of the project was also to contribute to the improvement of relations with the majority.
Following activities were carried out within the project: implementation of community work, support of Roma leaders and the creation of a Roma platform and implementation of educational and awareness-raising events in order to improve the image of Roma in Vítkovska. Members of the core group prepared and carried out a number of interesting events that contributed to more effective spending of free time by the families of the local community, to the development and maintenance of the Kluzák public space, and to the development of the competences of individual members of the community. The project promoter provided education and mutual visits to the leaders of the local community, as well as to Roma leaders from partner organizations, which were very inspiring and beneficial. Educational and awareness-raising activities certainly contributed to a more positive self-perception of the members of the Roma community, but also to a better understanding of Roma by the majority.
The goal of the project was to contribute to the empowerment of the Roma from Vítkov, to improve their position and to create a competent community that will be able to negotiate and defend their needs. As part of the project, the project promoter supported a total of 335 Roma, developed the competencies of 15 members of the core group, who prepared a total of 16 community events and participated in 4 field trainings. Thanks to the project, 1 independent Roma organization JARO22 was created. From a regional point of view, the project contributed to improving the position of Roma in the city of Budišov.
