Description

Prague 3 Municipality presents a project entitled "Support of the Roma Minority in the Prague 3 Municipality". As part of the project, we will establish a new full-time Roma counselor at the Municipality Office. The counselor will make a significant contribution to the integration of the Roma community in the area where the Roma minority is the largest national minority. He will also act as a mediator between the Roma minority and the majority society.

We will implement the project in cooperation with two partners from the ranks of Czech pro-Roma non-profit organizations - R-Mosty and Slovo 21. We will implement the project for 32 months - from September 1, 2021 to April 30, 2024. The Roma counselor will continue to be employed at the Municipal Office for min. 2 years after the end of the project.

Within the project we will implement a total of five key activities:
1) Establishment of a job of a Roma counselor and its activities
2) Networking of a Roma counselor with relevant persons and organizations, implementation of workshops and cultural and social events
3) Work placements abroad and in the Czech Republic
4) Publicity of the project
5) Project management.

The target groups are the following:
- Roma
- Civil society organizations: R-Mosty, Slovo 21 participating in the implementation of the project in the role of partner organizations and other organizations.

Our goal is to strengthen the inclusion and position of Roma by strengthening the capacity of Roma counselors in order to ensure tasks that facilitate the exercise of the rights of members of the Roma minority and the integration of members of the Roma community into society, including their education. We will achieve the purpose of the project by filling the position of Roma counselor, networking with other stakeholders and completing study tours in Norway and Slovakia, as well as internships in partner organizations.

Summary of project results

The project was beneficial due to its focus on strengthening the inclusion and position of the Roma
by establishing the position of a Roma counselor (assistance in the exercise of rights, support of
cultural heritage, ensuring information and education of the Roma). Roma counselor gained
experiences for her work thanks to all project activities. The biggest challenge was establishing trust
between the Roma minority and the counselor, activization the minority and engaging in workshops
for her.

There was established the position of a Roma counselor at the municipality of Prague 3, an expert
working group was created, which met once every 3 months, and an analysis of the situation of the
Roma minority in the territory of Prague 3 was created in order to map its situation and propose
suitable measures for further years, there were 2 foreign trips and 1 work trip in CR to gain
experience working with the Roma community, there were also 50-hour internships at partner
organizations (Slovo 21 and R-Mosty), 3 cultural events (Djelem, djelem, Leperiben and International
Roma Day) to preserve cultural heritage and a total of 6 educational workshops - 3 workshops for
pro-Roma organizations and experts, 2 workshops for the target group and 1 workshop to share
good practice. The implementation of all activities helped to achieve the goal of the project –
educated and experienced Roma counselor who will be able to continue the activities and support
for the Roma at the Prague 3.

During the project were supported Roma (approx. 3,000) from Prague 3 in exercising their rights and
solving their problems by establishing the position of educated Roma counselor. During the project,
his activities came to the attention of the Roma and organizations. Thanks to the events, which have
a total of over 5,000 views and dozens of shares on social nets, the project contributed to the
preservation of the cultural heritage of the Roma and to improving their status and public
perception.
