Description
The main aim of the project is the education of young people through the so-called activation program, which will involve students from regions in the Czech Republic outside Prague, who will go through an educational cycle and implement their own projects. The project activities will increase the media literacy of the students involved, their peers, younger children and elderly people. Students will be provided with suitable tools and knowledge that will enable them to multiply information to the selected target group.
The project will create an educational material for students, that will provide information on project management, especially about activities in the field of media literacy, and will contain an educational part focusing mainly on disinformation, fake news, propaganda, and cyber-security.
Teachers and youth workers play a key role in the educational process, and their development has a major impact on pupils'' education. Some regions and types of schools have little or no media education opportunities. The project will hold seminars for educators from regions outside Prague and will be offered them a unique opportunity to learn about media issues using innovative educational methods, such as teaching through audiovisual materials. Educators will be actively supported to provide quality information to their students.
Summary of project results
The project focused on the development of media literacy (MiL) among youth. It emphasised intergenerational overlap and focused on socio-economically weaker regions. It promoted young people''s activism to positively influence their environment. Teachers gained skills on how to teach MiL topics, and further develop their students'' MiL.
Difficulties: teachers were not interested in online events, one of the partners was not helpful in recruiting student teams.
The implemented an activation program for students that helped them to create their own projects focused on Media Literacy (MiL), they also spread awareness among their peers and other generations. The created a handbook for students on leading MiL projects, which they distributed to 450 students. This enables additional students to carry out their own projects. They organized 5 training workshops and trained 100 teachers and other educators from socioeconomically disadvantaged regions who have the necessary skills and materials to teach (MiL). They have assisted the teachers in integrating these topics into their teaching and further impart important knowledge to their students. The organised 2 public information events to showcase successful MiL projects, disseminate good practice and inform about project outputs. The spread awareness on the importance of MiL through social media, newsletters and trade media.
15 students strengthened their media literacy and implemented 5 projects with an impact on over 100 people.3 projects continue after the end of the project.100 educators attended workshops and received tools to strengthen media literacy among youth. Trained educators then transferred knowledge to 1800 students and continue after the project. The Student Handbook has already helped over 450 students with their own media education projects.
Educators gained tools for long-term strengthening of MiL among youth, even after the end of the project. Some of them have already joined other MiL programs and continue to expand their skills. Students have gained experiences and skills that will accompany them throughout their lives, especially with civic engagement, media education, communication and organization. The Student Handbook is freely available on the JSNS.CZ platform to other interested parties and beyond the project.
