Description

The project "Revitalization of the park on Nádražní Street" was processed as a follow-up to the "Adaptation strategy to climate change in the Kurim region", which was supported within Call No. SGS-3 "Oslo" of the Norway Grants 2014-2021. The measure "Revitalization of existing city parks" was proposed as part of the action plan of this adaptation strategy.  The park area near the train station is also subject in this measure. The implementation of this measure will improve the microclimatic conditions in the city and reduce the risks associated with high temperatures during heat waves. In addition to the positive effect on the microclimate in the city, the revitalized park will serve as an informal residential social space for the city, where it will be possible to organize social events, small chamber concerts, school performances by children, etc. A drinking fountain will be installed in the park, which will reduce the feeling temperature of passengers and at the same time serve as a facility for cyclists. "Revitalization of the park on Nádražní Street, Kuřim" thus mitigates the effects of climate change and reduces the overall vulnerability of intensively used locations around the busy railway station, which is so important to the lives of local residents.

Summary of project results

We implemented the project as a follow-up to the "Adaptation Strategy for the Climate Change of the Kurim Region", from which it follows that the park area near the train station is a place with high vulnerability to heat waves and drought. As part of the implementation of the project, we therefore focused on the adaptation of the city Kuřim to the new natural conditions resulting from the changing climate. The goal of the project was to reduce vulnerability to heat waves and drought, as well as to create accommodation and recreation facilities for local residents and visitors to the city Kuřim.

As part of the project, we revitalized a publicly accessible park area near the train station in Kuřim. As part of the measure, we planted greenery, paths and paved areas, installed drinking fountains and furniture (seating furniture, park chairs, workout area, wooden platforms). The implementation of the measure has a positive effect on the microclimate, and the revitalized park will also serve as an informal living space for the city, where it will be possible to organize social events, small chamber concerts, school performances by children, etc. By implementing measures, we mitigate the effects of climate change and reduce the overall vulnerability of intensively used locations in the vicinity of the busy railway station, which is so important to the lives of local residents.

The revitalized park will serve as accommodation for local residents and travelers in the vicinity of the busy train station. By implementing measures, we positively influenced 10,847 people.

The location was highly vulnerable to heat waves and drought before the measures were implemented. After the implementation of the measures, the humidity in the locality increased and the willingness of people to stay there. By implementing the project, we improved the microclimatic functions in the city.
