Description

The three-episode documentary-educational film focuses on the issue of air protection. In its first part, it deals with the main sources of air pollution in a global and regional context. In the next part, it names individual sources, analyzes them in detail and defines their harmfulness to the environment and health. It compares various possibilities of replacement of these sources and their alternatives not only from the ecological point of view, but also monitors economic aspects (heating of buildings, alternative modes of transport, and others).
In the third part, the film seeks answers to other questions related to air protection. It presents new technologies, innovations and their practical use and seeks inspiration abroad.

The concept of the film is based on the documentary format of the crew traveling to selected locations in the Czech Republic, which contrasts examples of sub-topics in combination with interviews with experts from relevant fields (health, meteorology, legislation, etc.), government and municipalities.

The main topics on which the scenario of the document is based include:
- Introduction
- Air composition, pollutants and their effect on health (respiratory and vascular diseases, cancer, etc.)
- Industry and energy (fossil fuels vs. renewable energy sources)
- Construction and development (sustainable construction, green roofs, energy-efficient buildings, etc.)
- Transport (urban mobility, electromobility, bicycle transport, etc.)
- Household heating (coal burning vs. new technologies)
- Planting trees, greenery in cities and forest management
- The Czech Republic''s approach to the issue of air protection, legislation, action plans of local governments, examples of good practice
- New technologies, innovations and visions for the future

Summary of project results

Air pollution has far-reaching negative effects on both the environment and human health. It contributes to respiratory diseases such as asthma and bronchitis, and it increases the risk of heart disease and lung cancer. Additionally, air pollution can harm ecosystems, leading to biodiversity loss and damage to crops, forests, and bodies of water. Moreover, it exacerbates climate change by releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, further intensifying the global warming crisis. Therefore, our documentary highlights the dangerous changes in the air and the health consequences of the changes. We travelled across Czechia, contacted leading experts and worked together to find the dangerous pollutants that are contributing most to the changes in air quality.

The documentary film, enriched with insights from leading experts, provides a comprehensive examination of contemporary air quality challenges, spotlighting not only outdoor but also indoor threats. It sheds light on lesser-known air pollutants, including micropollutants and indoor contaminants, while initially addressing strategies for reducing airborne particulate matter. Delving deeper, the film underscores the importance of recognizing and addressing these hidden dangers, some of which remain inadequately explored. We posted our documentary to a multitude of platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, Stream.cz etc. To extend our outreach and positive impact of the film, we ran a social media campaign with great results. At the end of it, our viewership has surpassed 118,000 on YouTube alone, with the film transcending its intended Czech audience through subtitles, thus extending its impact to English speakers in other countries as well.

The documentary achieved significant results in raising awareness about air quality challenges. It educates its viewers about the potential dangers to human health and the environment, prompting action to address these issues. For policymakers, the documentary provides valuable insights into the need for regulations and initiatives to mitigate air pollution. Additionally, the film encourages industries and businesses to adopt cleaner practices to reduce their environmental footprint. Overall, the documentary''s impact extended to various stakeholders, fostering a collective effort to combat air pollution and improve air quality for present and future generations.
