Description

The aim of the project is to create an adaptation strategy for the city of České Budějovice with a specific focus on the issue of water resources management. The adaptation strategy sets out appropriate measures to protect the environment and urban ecology.

Summary of project results

In České Budějovice, the consequences of climate change have been noticeable in the last two decades - overheating of the city, higher number of tropical days, drying of trees, especially from new plantings, flash floods after torrential rains of great intensity, flooding of sewers with rainwater and sewage. Therefore, the goal of the project was to create a strategic document, which would set the process of adapting to climate change and its effects. During the preparation of the strategy, the selected supplier, a consortium of companies Raddit-Ekotoxa-Nadace Partnerství, processed a large amount of analytical data about the city collected from scientific institutions. Guided interviews were held with city representatives and stakeholders, we made a survey among city residents. We organized public hearings, field trips and training, published printed materials on the topic, press releases, articles and media appearances. Through these activities we emphasised the necessity of implementing measures leading to the mitigation of the consequences of climate change. The strategy identifies the most vulnerable places and maps them. The main output of the project is the elaboration of the Local Adaptation Strategy of the City of České Budějovice. It consists of three parts: Analytical, Proposal and Implementation. The strategy was discussed and approved by the municipal government on September 6, 2022. The strategy is followed by the Action Plan for 2022-2024 approved by the city council, which sets specific tasks and measures needed to achieve the vision and set goals. A working group of professional staff and external experts participated in all phases of the project implementation. We expect the participation of these experts, ideally the entire group, also in the next stages, i.e. when implementing the adaptation strategy.
