The aim of the project is to create an adaptation strategy for the municipality of Šlapanice and thus reduce the negative impacts of this change on its inhabitants. Part of the creation of the strategy will be a detailed analysis of the risks of the territory, on the basis of which a system of effective measures will be created.
Summary of project results
The adaptation strategy represents a pivotal advancement for us, providing a structured approach to proactively address the detrimental effects of shifting climate patterns and evolving natural circumstances. Our primary aim is twofold: firstly, to mitigate potential risks posed to our community and its inhabitants by these transformations; secondly, to fortify our resilience in the face of adversities such as prolonged droughts, intense rainfall, or flooding events. By implementing this strategy, we aspire to safeguard the well-being and prosperity of our residents while ensuring sustainable development for future generations.
The project to develop an adaptation strategy in the Šlapanice community unfolded through a collaborative and systematic approach. Beginning with extensive research and stakeholder engagement, the process aimed to comprehensively assess the vulnerabilities and needs of the area in light of changing environmental conditions. Community members, local authorities, and experts contributed valuable insights and perspectives throughout the project. Using this collective knowledge, the team formulated tailored strategies and action plans to address identified challenges, with a focus on enhancing resilience and minimizing risks. Continuous feedback loops and transparent communication ensured that the final adaptation strategy reflected the aspirations and priorities of the Šlapanice community, setting a resilient path forward for sustainable development.
Our vision is that the city and the landscape around Šlapanice are resistant to the threats arising from climate change. We manage the landscape in a sustainable way, we have enough suitable vegetation and water in it. We are able to stabilize the urban microclimate with suitable greenery and water features. We educate the inhabitants of Šlapanice in environmental topics and actively involve them in activities related to climate change. The measures proposed by the strategy and their gradual implementation will help us to fulfil our vision.
