The aim of the project is to create an adaptation strategy that defines long-term goals and partial steps of the municipality of Suchdol nad Lužnicí. The developed adaptation strategy will serve as a strategic basis for compiling municipal budgets and other documents.
Summary of project results
As part of the project, we have developed an adaptation strategy to climate change, which consists of analytical part, proposal of activities and projects including the way of their implementation to solve problems related to climate change. The aim of the project was to create a tool that will strengthen the city management strategy in selected adaptation and mitigation measures in response to climate change.
We have developed an adaptation strategy that lead to an increase in the quality of decision-making by the representatives of the town of Suchdol nad Lužnicí and their citizens. The elaboration of the adaptation strategy provided the relevant data for evidence-based decision-making and actionable insight in the areas of sustainability. The elaboration was accompanied by educational activities and communication with the public focused on the issue of adaptation and mitigation of climate change.
The adaptation strategy makes it easier for employees and city officials to coordinate individual investment activities, which will then take place as part of its implementation. The creation of the document defined the approaches that systematically lead to addressing the issue of adaptation to climate change. A significant benefit is also the acceleration of decision-making processes of individual employees, due to the clear basis of the need for individual activities. The implementation of the adaptation strategy enabled the citizens to participate in its creation, to obtain information about the importance of the proposed measures, which will lead to a better understanding of them in the implementation of the created Action Plan.
We have developed an adaptation strategy as a practical document that will help the city to address climate change issues with appropriate adaptation activities in the future. The outputs of expert analyzes are interpreted so that the strategy is understandable and accessible to politicians, officials and the public. The elaboration of an adaptation strategy leads to a reduction in the Maladaptation effect, which is commonly known and criticized in many cities in the draft of the latest IPCC report.. Through the Action Plan in years 2020 - 2026, the implementation of the first measures will be started, including the determination of responsibilities and sources of financing. The adaptation strategy will be updated for the next period as needed.
