Description

The aim of the project is to ensure optimal conditions for the survival of rare species of plants and animals in 3 forest localities in the care of land trusts. The way to do this is mainly the planting of target tree species and the protection of plantings and rejuvenation of these tree species from browsing.

Summary of project results

Forests make up more than 34 % of our territory. In the vast majority of cases, however, these are commercial forests, which are not very valuable from a biological point of view. Land trusts hold real rights to forests not for economic reasons, but for reasons of nature protection. In our project we focused on maintaining or improving the condition of selected localities in the care of land trusts. The aim of the project was to ensure optimal conditions for the survival of rare species of plants and animals in 3 forest localities in the care of land trusts. The way to do this is mainly the planting of target tree species and the protection of plantings and rejuvenation of these tree species from damage by wild animals trought fencing.

As part of the project, we implemented six activities at three selected localities. In the locality called „Jindřišské údolí“, we created a fence of natural rejuvenation of fir with an area of 0.5 ha. In the locality called „Kupsova skála“, we ensured the cutting of invasive trees (birch, blackthorn, buckthorn, goat willow, hazel), planting 20 pieces sessile oaks and creating two fences to protect the beech, fir and oak. We planted 500 pieces silver firs, 200 pieces small-leaved lindens and 200 pieces wych elms in the locality called „Jehlište“, and we placed two fences around the planted trees. We regularly checked the fences at all localities and, if necessary, repaired them.

The implementation of project activities led to the support of the biological diversity of forest area. In addition to the target species of plants, animals and biotopes, the measures are also beneficial for all visitors to the given localities. We implemented six activities to protect selected plant or animal species at the project localities. The implemented activities have a positive effect on 15 species of organisms (7 species of fungi, 6 species of animals, 2 species of plants) from the Red Lists and on 1 biotope from the Red List of Biotopes.
