Description

The aim of the project is to create a strategic document for the Pardubice region, which will provide data for bodies involved in activities aimed at adaptation to climate change. The project, which integrates previously created technical materials and data, will focus mainly on two priority areas with an area of 58.5 km2. The target groups are mainly landscape managers (flow administrators, forest managers, State Land Office, region, towns, municipalities, farmers) and state administration bodies (regional authorities, municipalities with extended powers, other municipal authorities, AOPK ČR).

Summary of project results

Although a significant part of society already perceives climate change as a problem, few people have actually taken active action so far. That is why the Pardubice region decided to lend a helping hand to active municipalities in its territory. In a broad plenary session, we discussed the need for a comprehensive landscape solution. Our main goal was to raise awareness and discuss climate change and its manifestations, problems in the landscape and possible solutions. In general, we are in the very beginning of the implementation of adaptation measures in the Czech Republic. The project showed the municipalities in the addressed areas that the Pardubice Region supports these activities and is a partner they can rely on. A long-term cooperation was established with active municipalities in the areas addressed. Among the activities we implemented as part of the project are field surveys, data collection and analysis, designing suitable adaptation measures for the investigated localities and discussing these measures with the affected entities.

A number of entities participated in the development of the adaptation strategy. The Pardubice Region played a leading role through the Institut environmentálních výzkumů a aplikací. The main processor was a private design office. Subcontracts related to publicity and graphic work were drawn up by a specialized advertising agency. The main output of the project is the design of adaptation measures in two parts of the Pardubice region, namely in the basin of the Malonín Stream and in the basin of the Teplické Stream. These measures were prepared in cooperation with local governments and other land users. Due to the fact that these are proposals in the form of a study, the tangible benefit for the inhabitants of the countries addressed cannot yet be quantified. In total, 58 km2 of territory was dealt with. Revitalization of waterways and floodplains, landscaping, planting, technical and natural anti-flood measures and anti-erosion measures were proposed.
