Description

The main aim of the project is to compile an Adaptation strategy, which will provide an aproach to climate change problems targeted  at the area of Domanín municipality, in the Jindřichův Hradec district in the South Bohemian Region. The strategy will reflect needs of all its component, impacts of the climate changes which are in the latest years intensively felt through the Czech Republic.

Summary of project results

In connection with developments that affect not only the Czech Republic, the negative manifestations of climate change such as long-term drought, floods, heavy rainfall, high temperatures, extreme winds and others are increasing. There is thus a need to start solving this problem not only on a global scale, but also at the level of regions and smaller municipalities. In the last few years, Domanín has started implementing climate protection measures, but there was a lack of key conceptual material that would ensure effective planning and spending of funds to reduce the negative impacts of climate change. With this goal in mind, we embarked on the implementation of a project within the Environment, Ecosystems and Climate Change program. Our intention was to create a strategy adapted as much as possible to the conditions and needs of the territory of our municipality. We wanted a strategy that would be based on general principles of climate protection and at the same time reflect the specific situation in our village. Such a strategy will be more easily accepted by the key entities that operate in our territory. The developed adaptation strategy will not only affect the territory of the municipality itself, but in a broader perspective also adjacent localities and with them also selected specially protected areas—Třeboň Basin Protected Landscape Area and area of  Natural Water Accumulation.

The municipality''s adaptation strategy consists of analytical, design and implementation parts, which are interconnected. As part of the analysis of our territory, we have identified the main threats that our municipality may face in the future. These include, for example, soil degradation, flash floods or degradation of forest stands. Following the analysis of the territory, we created a set of appropriate measures that will help our municipality to better manage the negative effects of climate change and strengthen its resilience. These measures include, for example, the creation and revitalization of a system of new ponds, the restoration of field roads and draws, the establishment of rain gardens, the planting of new avenues or the construction of a rainwater retention system in the village.

As part of the project, we created the website www.klima-domanit.cz, where you can find all the information about the implementation of our project as well as the completed adaptation strategy of our municipality.
