The aim of the project is to create an adaptation strategy for the municipalities of Moravany, Ostopovice and Nebovidy. The need for project implementation results from a serious environmental situation in the applicant''s area of interest. Typical negative impacts of climate change, e.g. heat waves, long-term drought, floods, soil degradation, deterioration of air quality, negative development of biodiversity, unstable energy supplies are real threats. Without an adequate, well-prepared adaptation strategy, these and other negative impacts will continue.
Summary of project results
As representatives of the South Moravian municipalities of Moravany, Ostopovice and Nebovidy, we have decided to join forces in the fight against the effects of climate change and create a joint adaptation strategy related to mitigating these effects and adapting to related climate changes. The basic condition was, of course, the maintenance of standards of living conditions and the sustainable development of our regional economy. A certain unpreparedness to respond to the serious environmental situation in the region forced us to implement such a project. Among the negative manifestations of the current situation that we are currently dealing with in the area of the environment, let us name, for example, heat waves, rains and the associated erosion and degradation of the soil, or negative developments in the field of biodiversity. Unstable socio-economic development also plays its role. We are aware that without an adequate, high-quality and well-crafted adaptation strategy, the negative manifestations will continue and only worsen.
The prerequisite for the creation of an adaptation strategy was our common belief, which is based on the preservation and development of natural components and nature''s energies, the rational use of gentle technologies and an economically long-term perspective. The output of our project was the document "Adaptation strategy of the municipalities of Moravany, Ostopovice and Nebovidy to climate change", which is an important strategic document for the development of municipalities. The strategy defines a number of measures related to the implementation of specific projects in selected buildings and locations of our municipalities, such as the expansion of a kindergarten, reconstruction of sidewalks, bus stops, or the construction of new water bodies. Each measure mentioned in the strategy contains the so-called adaptation potential and describes how the given project should approach the issue of energy efficiency, retention and further use of water as well as the reduction of its consumption or the preservation or expansion of greenery in the given location. The strategy also contains a number of soft measures regarding the care of public greenery, the use of electric cars or car sharing systems.
Summary of bilateral results
Cooperation with partners could not take place to the extent originally planned due to Covid-19 measures. In the framework of the project, the experiences of partners from the domains of their specialization were mainly used and shared.
