Description

The project seeks to revive an immovable cultural monument – the premises of the former Jesuit College in Telč. The objective is to bring the centre to a new level, make it more open to the public and local communities and make it the social and cultural centre of Telč with a spill-over effect beyond the borders of the region.

The major objective is to make the public aware of the extraordinary work of painter Míla Doleželová and her husband Jiří Mareš by creating an exhibition space to give access to and exhibit their paintings. The idea of creating the exhibition originates from the will of Míla Doleželová, who wished for a gallery with her paintings to be built in Telč.

For leisure activities, we are going to build two art studios where art, music and dance workshops or classes can take place. In collaboration with the Museum of Romani Culture, a series of educational and cultural activities will be organised. A no less important goal is to make these activities accessible to our fellow citizens with disabilities.

Within the project, we are going to establish cooperation with colleagues from the Norwegian organisation Romano kher, which fulfils the role of a Romani cultural centre. There is going to be an exchange programme that will give us the opportunity to get to know each other better and exchange experience and information.

Our activities will lay the foundation for the creation of a permanent exhibition in Telč which should actively contribute, in collaboration with other local actors, not only to the care for the cultural heritage, but also to the development of the local civic life and spreading awareness across society. A community centre will be created, which will be available to everybody without distinction.

Summary of project results

The "World of Roma" project created a permanent exhibition of the painter Mila Doleželová at the University Center in Telč. The exhibition hosted various cultural events popularizing topics related to social exclusion (Roma, the handicapped). The project contributed to the preservation of cultural heritage and expanded the offer for local communities and visitors. The main challenges were the long-term loan of paintings from the Dominican Province and the acceptance of the project by partners.

The "World of the Roma" project fulfilled the wishes of the painter Míla Doleželová, her paintings returned to Telč, and a permanent exhibition paintings was created at the Telč University Center. It creates a deep visual dialogue between art and the Roma heritage. The exhibition is located in two rooms and a large part of the adjacent corridor. It is complemented by a movement and art studio. The first two activities have created an ideal space for mutual understanding between cultures. In the exhibition we organized a singing, art and music workshop led by Roma lecturers, who introduced the participants to the richness and diversity of Roma culture, which helps to break down stereotypes and prejudices. The aim was to contribute to greater tolerance and cultural integration.

It was possible to build a permanent exhibition with interactive elements and accompanying educational and cultural events on the UCT campus, thus increasing the attractiveness of cultural heritage. The investment has made the site accessible to a wider range of the public. Specialist programmes and events have attracted more visitors. Our activities have contributed to the inclusion of ethnic minorities (Roma) and to the social inclusion of other vulnerable groups (disabled).

Summary of bilateral results

The Norwegian partner brought to the project experience in the field of education and work with the community from his environment. Both partners, Norsk and Czech, were an integral part of the project and helped shape the resulting activities. We managed to implement some of the activities on a smaller scale at our partner directly in Romano Kher - we installed a selection of reproductions from the works of the painter Míla Doleželová and organized educational programs for groups of Roma pupils. Thanks to the sharing of experiences, a dialogue was established between the two organizations and between the lecturers.
