Description

We’ll create unique content for multimedia artistic exhibits representing a new history telling via authentic personal testimonies. The exhibition focuses on the viewer and brings Czech and foreign visitors closer to the Czech, resp. European experience (incl. Norwegian) with totalitarian regimes. The interdisciplinary project combines new media, game design, history, educational practices, visual communication, museology and other art principles to create a 20th-century plastic image offering different perspectives on historical themes. The project supports cultural institutions'' capacity building and the creation of new modern history regional museums, lacking in the Czech Republic - the Memory of Nation Institutes (MNI). The MNI purpose is to popularise modern history via authentic personal testimonies based on the extensive Memory of Nation Archive. We’ll open the regional centres in Pardubice and Brno.

We intend to convey historical topics to the widest audience possible. Thus we’ll create content to mediate interesting information and personal testimonies in a suggestive and interactive form, connected with the present, too. We’ll use the latest technologies and storytelling principles with an emphasis on preserving the stories'' authenticity. Using augmented reality, the visitor experiences concrete destinies and becomes a part of them. We are implementing the project with a foreign partner, the renowned Falstad Centre, which focuses on documenting the 20th-century phenomena and presenting these topics via modern exhibition procedures. This cooperation will mutually increase our competencies in the field of creating exhibition content with modern technologies incl. i.a. augmented reality. The project will use the latest techniques and theories from the museology and education field and connect them with technologies in a project, where unique content will be created for interactive multimedia art exhibitions to become Czech modern history regional centres.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to build two multimedia  permanent exhibitions in Pardubice and Brno. The main reason  is that the Czech Republic still lacks a modern exhibition of 20th century history, which would be attractive especially for the young generation, who need to be educated in this area so that the tragic history of the 20th century is not repeated.

Within the project we created two permanent exhibitions based on life stories filmed for www.memoryofnations.eu, created a Czech-Norwegian exhibition on the topic of helping Charter 77 from Scandinavia, created a new educational trail in the Falstad Centre memorial, made a total of four educational trips, two to Norway and two to the Czech Republic.

Both permanent exhibitions are very important contribution to the education for especially young people but also for the broad public.

The Norwegian-Czech exhibition was created as an opportunity to thank the citizens of Norway and other Scandinavian countries for their often dangerous assistance to Charter 77 and its representatives during the Cold War.

A total of 17 517 people attended the supported contemporary art events, of which 8319  were aimed at social, ethnic or cultural minorities. A total of 8,241 new donors supported the Memory of the Nation Institutes. Final beneficiary was thus able to strengthen the capacity of three cultural entities. Project promoter organized a total of 4 study tours, which trained a total of 12 people. PP also created an audience development strategy that was put into practice.

Project promoter created an unique content for a multimedia art exhibition that tells the stories of 20th century history based on the authentic testimonies. It is intended to tell visitors the history of the Czech Rep. and Europe and the experience of totalitarian regimes. It uses the latest findings of museology and modern technologies. Project promoter have contributed to the development of the social and economic environment.

Summary of bilateral results

Cooperation with the Norwegian partner played a crucial role in the project. The main benefit was cooperation in creating new content for local exhibitions, but also joint work on creating an exhibition with Norwegian-Czech content, thanks to which project promoter gained valuable contacts and were given the opportunity to thank Scandinavian citizens for their support of Charter 77. Regarding the exhibitions, the exchange took place mainly in the area of exchanging multimedia elements and augmented reality elements. The exchange within the framework of study trips was also important, from which the educational departments of both organizations benefited in particular and whose cooperation will continue in the future. It was also beneficial to get acquainted with the financing system of similar institutions in Norway. Project promoter was thus able to include this knowledge in the audience development strategy of our institutions.
