Description

The main objectives of the project are:

• Restoration of the brewery´s buildings as a cultural heritage. Some of the premises of the brewery are heavily affected (e.g. their statics is endangered), it is leaking into them. Moreover, the interiors of the brewery buildings are not currently in good technical conditions either.

• Renovation of technical equipment, meaning specific brewery technology, which consist of various objects in different stage of degradation.

• Creation a new museum with rooms available for community meetings, workshops and other cultural/educational activities. Within this project, our aim is to open the museum, so called “live museum”, where the renovated technical equipment will find its place. Today, in the Czech Republic there is no similar museum, which could provide the information in the area of brewery in such a complex way.

• Digitalization of cultural heritage.

• Creation and implementation of business strategy.

Main target groups are public (museum visitors and attendants of various events), students and expert public. Part of the exposition will be dedicated to minorities, for example Jews, who have historical connection to this region and have left there specific traces  related to their business activities. The project will be implemented thanks to involvement of partners from Norway (other brewery) and Iceland (Museum), and other partners from Czech Republic (University). They will guarantee the technical part relating to the restoration of exhibits (equipment of the brewery) and restoration of brewery itself. They will supervise the actions leading to creating and opening a new exhibition.

Summary of project results

The project''s aim was revitalisation of the histortical brewery premises and creation of new expositions of the National Brewery Museum which is based in the culktural heritage site. Some parts of the brewery were in poor condition despite its gradual revitalisation that started in 2001. Thanks to the restoration of the brewery, the cultural heritage was saved and made accessible to the public. Visitors can now see the restored collection of brewery technology registered in the Central Collection Register of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and learn about the rich Czech brewing history.

The main result of the project was revitalisation of several parts of the bulding and restoration of the brewing techmilogy. In addition to this, professionals were trained in the restoration or digitalisation of movable cultural heritage. Some brewery technology belonging to movable cultural heritage was digitalised and made available online. A website has been created where some of these objects can be viewed. At the same time, there have been several cultural and sports events aimed at community gatherings, professional seminars, workshops and conferences. All these activities  aimed at developing tourism and the economy of the region. Brewing has a long history and is an important part of the cultural heritage of many countries. The museum serves to preserve and share this rich history with the public. At the same time, it can be an inspiration for future generations of brewers and beer lovers.

The museum offers interactive exhibitions, educational programmes for schools and the public, which spread awareness of brewing and traditional beer recipes. We collaborate with local breweries, organize tastings, festivals and workshops. The project has resulted in increased awareness of brewing, deeper knowledge of the history of brewing, the brewing process, and educational experiences. Over 3 500 visitors visited the National Brewery Museum during the renovation. Thanks to the project, selected parts of the brewery site were repaired, preventing further degradation and devastation. At the same time, the technologies were repaired and placed in permanent exhibitions, thus preventing their irreversible damage. An exhibition dedicated to Jewish cultural heritage was created. The project also contributed to employment increase and creation of local community space.

Summary of bilateral results

The Norwegian partner provided information about the historical development and tradition of brewing in Norway in the form of several lectures as part of cultural activities. The Norwegian partner trained Czech brewers in brewing Norwegian beer Kweik. We drew on the experience of the Icelandic partner in building a living interactive museum. Both partners were of great benefit during the entire project implementation.
