Description

The project addresses the emergency condition of the granary building, which requires the necessary construction work to prevent its irreversible damage, loss of its cultural value and thus the loss of a significant part of the cultural heritage of the Belohrad region, of which it has been an integral part since the second decade of the 19th century.

The aim of the project is the protection, restoration, and presentation of cultural heritage through the revitalization and making access to the classicist building of the Belohrad granary. The purpose of the project is to strengthen the management of cultural heritage and thus contribute to regional development by making the revitalized granary, which is now in a state of disrepair, accessible. The target groups of the project are mainly the inhabitants of the town and its surroundings and also artists and experts of various professions and fields and representatives of civil society organizations.

The applicant will perform the following tasks within the project implementation:

- revitalizes the granary building and equips it for the needs of organizing cultural and community events,

- makes the building accessible to the public following the Business Strategy,

- organizes a workshop and a final conference,

- organizes 2 cultural and community events.

The project is based on cooperation between partners:  Vaer Stolt   to strengthen partnership between Czech entities and entities from donor countries and Foundation of Czech Cubism, which focuses on the protection of cultural monuments

Summary of project results

The project primarily addressed the poor technical condition of the Bělohradská granary building. The building was in a deplorable state and was dilapidated. The building was in a state of emergency. For this reason, the building was also inaccessible and unused.

During the implementation, the project had to face two major problems:

1. Increase in construction costs

2. Further findings of hidden defects in the roof, which made it necessary to reconsider the method of reconstruction of the roof.

The main activity of the project was the complete reconstruction of the granary building and its furnishing with basic furniture.

In addition to these main activities, the project implemented then accompanying activities. A business strategy was developed and implemented, a restoration workshop for students and educational events for school children were held. At the end of the project, a ceremonial opening of the granary, a concert and the opening of an exhibition of paintings were organized.

2 new job positions were also created - a manager and a receptionist.

The building was opened to the public in September 2024. Occasional cultural events are organized in the building and a café is open during regular opening hours.

FB, web and other elements of publicity were also implemented.

The project managed to repair a dilapidated building located in the castle park in the city center and make it accessible to the public. A new city cultural center was created in the building.

The main output of the project is the reconstructed granary building. This reconstruction enabled both its rescue and then its opening to the public. The building is currently used by the city''s residents and visitors.

Summary of bilateral results

The cooperation with the Norwegian partner Vaer Stolt was not as intensive as expected, mainly due to the low interest of the Norwegian partner. In the framework of the partnership with Vaer Stolt, the partner was regularly informed about the progress of the project. The partner was scheduled to participate in the opening ceremony of the granary in September 2024, which he did not attend due to time constraints. The partner was also invited to plan a cooperation in the operational phase, which would consist of jointly developing a plan of events for the granary premises (exhibitions, theatre performances, etc.).
