Description

The main goal of this project is to support active citizenship in the Ostrava region for LGBT+ topics. Within a series of events we will show the participants ways how to become an active citizen in the following topics: how to organise a pride march, migration of LGBT+ people, legal struggles for LGBT+ people, active LGBT+ seniors. The final event will then focus on networking of participants of the former events. The secondary goal of this project is to create a safe space within our events for meeting of the local LGBT+ community.

Summary of project results

The project was a response to the problem of low level of active citizenship for LGBT+ topics in the Moravian-Silesian region, which results in the non-acceptance and disrespect of LGBT+ people. Throughout the project we were able to organize 6 public events on the topic of active citizenship in LGBT+ topics. In total, 105 people participated in the events. The last public event - a networking meeting - allowed individuals interested in engaging in the topic to get to know each other, network and together develop plans for further engagement in LGBT+ civil society activities. One of the things discussed was the possibility of more participatory planning of our collective''s events through open meetings focused on organising a specific event - participation in this way is more accessible to many people than becoming a member of the collective straight away.
