Description

Through targeted seminars with elements of experiential pedagogy and certified primary prevention programmes, we want to offer and put into hands of educators and young people practical tools for verifying the truthfulness of information and detecting misinformation in cyberspace. The project will allow us to WORK in new ways and, thanks to the new unique website, COMMUNICATE with educators on the topic of media literacy, which is very current due to the planned revision of the FEP / SEP from the diction of the Ministry of Education, which does not currently manage its coordinating role. In a similar way, the project replaces the coordinating role of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in the field of primary prevention, which we will implement in schools with the topic of media literacy.

Summary of project results

The OSF-supported project "Computer Natives versus Immigrants" allowed us to conduct workshops for educators on media literacy and uncovered new areas we would like to focus on in this follow-up project. It is no exaggeration to say that in many schools, unfortunately, educators are the senders of hoaxes and misinformation, especially in areas that are currently resonating in society. These educators, often in leadership positions, manipulate their environment (including their students) by misusing communicators or email to send out links to various unverified sources of information. Due to the fact that social networks inherently spread negative messages more quickly and usually have a higher response rate (in terms of likes and comments), manipulative posts by educators with unverified content gain a large reach. Like doctors, teachers are still perceived as a certain authority on the social ladder and their word, even if written on the wall of a selected social network, carries weight. The statement ''they wrote it on the internet'' suddenly becomes ''a representative from our son''s school wrote it'', creating social bubbles in which links to unverified information are spread en masse. The recipients of these manipulations often lack the erudition to verify the sources and passively spread the news uncritically, thereby undermining the very principles of democratic values.

We have managed to work practically with teachers in supervision and to offer supervision to schools as a functional concept of reflecting on their own work - we consider this fact to be the greatest, long-term sustainable and positive impact of the project as a whole. We perceive that in the long term it has a positive impact on the school/classroom climate if educators are able to individual/group form of supervision can be sustained in the school and thus work not only with the topic of media literacy, which was primarily addressed by the project.

The seminars for teachers and young people were carried out using an experiential method including evaluation tools. The selected teachers were further targeted by individual supervision work. For both target groups, we targeted not only information, but especially attitudes in relation to how inaccurate information, negation or just the inability not to respond, triggers an avalanche of hateful comments and misinformation on the Internet. In addition, we introduced the target group of teachers to the new concept of supervision work through a new unique website.
