Description

We are erasing myths that the young generation has problems communicating with the older. On the contrary, they compliment each other, can be creative together and inspire each other. We are creatively presenting current life issues of both generations, which have become more apparent in these Covid times, to the wider public.
We are running interactive discussions with seniors and school children on the themes of preconceptions and prejudice. We are creating dialogue. 12 intergenerational groups will get to see things from a different perspective during a weekend film animation workshop. 24 short films will be made and presented to the public. For this we will create methodolgical procedures, evaluations and prepare a campaign.

Summary of project results

The project worked with the topic of intergenerational prejudices, critical thinking, cooperation and creative processing of stories. There were two different target group, the new generation (Z and alfa) and the „baby boomers“ generation, people over 60 years old. We added a particular piece to the debate about myths and prejudices that the young generation have with the elderly people. We tried to prove and collect evidence, taking another point of view - creative and artistic way. We considered the key influence of the older generation as the storytellers and realized  the power of memories and we used the technological skills and ability of using children fantasy of the kids. We proved that these two generations complement each other, can work together and inspire each other. We were creatively presenting current life issues of both generations, to them and to the wider public during the project.

We were running interactive discussions with seniors and school children on the themes of prejudices. We were creating dialogue within intergenerational groups and open them the space for understanding their life and things going from a different perspective during the workshops. We presented and celebrated their work together during the common projection in the cinema among the public. We made it and we are proud of it.

Strengthen the ability to realize our own social prejudices. Recognize the influence they have on life (communication and interpersonal relationships) and thus increase the ability to work with them in everyday life. Through joint meetings of 2 generations, the ability to accept a different point of view with empathy, understanding and compassion for not only another generation will increase. Outputs: lectures at schools, meeting in pro-senior organizations

2. Create a relationship between children and seniors through shared experiences from activities in intergenerational meetings and workshops. On the basis of joint work with intergenerational prejudices in the form of animation to share their experiences and stories in the safety of small groups. Output: 2 days workshops of animation, short animation movies reflecting main topic

3. By publishing the works as part of public screenings, draw attention to the need for intergenerational sharing, solidarity, and the search for basic common values between the elderly, children at school and the wider public. Output: 3 public events - cinema projections.

Children, as well as seniors, are aware of the intergenerational gap and consider it a completely natural and socially tolerated fact. They often documented it with negative attitudes and experiences strenghthenning common prejudices and stereotypes. However, the aim of the project was not to change or deny them. We wanted and we were able to show both groups the common basis of our thinking and life attitude, which goes beyond us, such as the „art“ of communication and self-reflection, the need for mutual understanding, need of empathy and the necessity to share, pass and keep historical experience. In this way of meaning, the project was getting by from the beginning of its implementation. Through the number of discussions (18), meetings (18) and workshops (9) a lot of stories and shared experiences, as well as intergenerational relationships were established. Communication in intergenerational relationships has been improved, awareness of target groups’ life attitudes and prejudices among the target groups has been raised (450 persons in total), as well as among lecturers (11 persons) and other project employees (8 persons). We believe that this experience led the participants to change their life approach, and brought them new perspectives of looking at other generations and the opportunity to share their own experience in their surroundings.
