The project aims for active and long term involvement of the locals in finding solution for the problem, mainly by community collection of data, expert analysis and coordinated steps in negotiations with local authorities and potential polluters. The project will help to set a strategy for the locals to cooperate and collect necessary data for an effective and evidence-based dialogue with the other actors.

Summary of project results

This May, it was exactly five years since an unpleasant chemical smell first appeared in the surrounding of Prachovice. Thanks to the project, the Herout association has taken the citizens who are involved in the problem under its wing and developed communication between them and activities that should lead to a solution of the smell problem. The association has been active in communicating with the state authorities. We became participants in the proceedings for the change of the integrated permission of the cement plant and participants in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process. We sent 32 statements, suggestions, questions and complaints to the state authorities. As a result, we have expanded our capacity both professionally and procedurally. At the same time, we improved our communication of the issue with local citizens and the public. There is still a long way to go, but thanks to the project we are further along on this way and our association is significantly strengthened.
