Description

The project objective is to increase the green innovative value and sustainable economic growth of MSS 20 Ltd. The project aims to contribute to the application of innovative and green processes and solutions including reduction of production wastes and carbon footprint, more energy efficient production processes and green products. These goals will be achieved through implementation of the main activities of the project which include purchasing of eccentric press and purchasing of hydraulic variable rake guillotine shear.

The equipment under this project will help MSS 20 Ltd. to have complete production process without the need of outsourcing and reduce waste by using cold cutting, ensuring dimensional accuracy and thus leading to zero waste. The hydraulic variable rake guillotine shear will facilitate the production process, because the sheet metal will be cut to the exact size according to the given project and there will be no need to wait for delivery of a certain size sheet metal. It also saves time and energy (several machines are currently used for this process and a lot of space for sorting the individual stages). The eccentric press will be used for making service holes for electrical and plumbing in the metal profile, as well as for making several types of metal plates, which are currently purchased separately and thus the final product becomes more expensive. Furthermore, the new equipment will significantly reduce electricity consumption of the enterprise by reducing the daily hourly operation of the machines. Production processes also do not include welding in comparison with competitors on the market, which helps reducing harmful emissions from traditional metal welding.

The material for the mobile houses (as well as for the rest of the company’s products) that is used is galvanized steel which can be fully recycled and leaves no carbon footprint.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to contribute to the application of innovative and green processes and solutions including reduction of production wastes and carbon footprint, more energy efficient production processes and green products. These goals were achieved through the implementation of the main activities of the project which included purchasing of eccentric press and hydraulic variable rake guillotine shear.

The hydraulic variable rake guillotine shear facilitates the production process, because the sheet metal is cut to the exact size according to the given project and there will be no need to wait for delivery of a certain size sheet metal. It also saves time and energy (several machines are currently used for this process and a lot of space for sorting the individual stages).

The eccentric press is used for making service holes for electrical and plumbing in the metal profile, as well as for making several types of metal plates, which, before the implementation of the project were purchased separately and thus the final product becomes more expensive.

Furthermore, the new equipment significantly reduces electricity consumption of the enterprise by reducing the daily hourly operation of the machines. Production processes also do not include welding in comparison with competitors on the market, which helps reducing harmful emissions from traditional metal welding.

Another very important competitive advantage is the assembly of the structure. Modular and prefabricated construction is an evolving trend due to the amount of material, labour and time it saves. The structure is built of modules before installation. As far as alternative products and processes are known on the market from competitors, which also provide modular construction, they do not perform the whole process in the production base and have to complete the assembly on site. Unlike the competitors, what the applicants aimed through the realisation of the project was to offer a completely finished product / construction ready for placement. The completely finished product in the production base eliminates the probability of assembling on site has, which includes re-order delivery for the wrong parts.

The emphasis that the applicant puts in the production of mobile houses is on the metal structure and this will be where the profit will come from. However, the completion of the final product, which reaches the consumers, requires additional materials and attributes. The final product the company achieved also includes its eco-elements, contributing to environmental protection and energy efficiency. The insulation of the houses is done with stone wool, which in turn minimises energy losses. WPC siding is used for the exterior cladding of the houses. WPC siding is an environmentally friendly product, safe for human health and the environment. During the production of this siding no harmful chemicals are used, it is not painted and varnished. The wood-polymer composite is non-combustible and does not support combustion. Wooden wall panels can cause fire, while WPC siding cannot and is a self-extinguishing material. With the overall vision of the mobile houses, the applicant aimed to respond to the present needs of society and to minimise the harmful impact on the environment.

MSS 20 Ltd. is a company that specializes in construction of metal structures which are later used for the construction of prefabricated houses. The company strives to offer high-quality products and services to its customers, as well as to improve its production efficiency and competitiveness.

In order to achieve its goals, MSS 20 Ltd. invested in new equipment that will enable the company to enhance its production capacity and quality. The company organized a tender procedure for the procurement of two machines: an eccentric press and a hydraulic variable rake guillotine shear. The tender procedure was conducted in accordance with the Bulgarian Law and the principles of transparency and fairness. The new equipment enabled MSS 20 Ltd. to increase its production volume, reduce its costs and improve its product quality and customer satisfaction.

The outputs are as follows:
- 1 innovative green technology applied (new to the enterprise);
- 3 measure implemented to decrease CO2 emissions;
- 1 measure implemented to introduce / increase waste collection from operational processes;
- 1 measure implemented to reduce fuel consumption;
- 1 measure implemented to improve energy efficiency.

The project had a significant impact on the performance and competitiveness of MSS 20 Ltd. By acquiring the new equipment, the company was able to complete its production process in-house, without relying on external providers. This increased its productivity, reduced its delivery time, and enhanced its quality control. Moreover, the new equipment used cold cutting technology, which minimized the material waste and ensured dimensional accuracy of the products. The company also benefited from lower energy and fuel consumption, as well as lower CO2 emissions, due to the improved efficiency of the machines. The project also contributed to the creation of two new jobs and the retention of the existing ones.

After the implementation of the project, the following outcomes were achieved:

  • 60% increase in annual turnover compared to the baseline year 2021;
  • 100% increase in net operational profit compared to the baseline year 2021;
  • Reduction of 13.91 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, thanks to the waste reduction, energy saving, and fuel saving measures;
  • Zero-waste production process, as all the material is either used for the products or collected for re-use or recycling.
