Description

The project "Improving the energy efficiency of an external artificial lighting system in 4 settlements in Apriltsi municipality" under the procedure aims to increase energy efficiency through technological upgrading and modernization of the outdoor artificial lighting systems owned by the Municipality of Apriltsi and to improve the living conditions of the population. For the implementation of the prescribed energy-saving measures, it is envisaged to replace the old and depreciated lights and to add the missing ones, with new LED luminaries. The project proposal complies with the principles of economy, efficiency and effectiveness, and the proposed project was developed with project readiness: Option 2 "Projects with Energy Audit only": External Lighting System Energy Audits performed.

Summary of project results

The successful implementation of the project aims to ensure the required sanitary and hygienic standards for the illumination of street lighting systems in the Apriltsi municipality by replacing old high-pressure sodium lamps (HPS), emitting a small luminous flux from the luminaires, with new energy-efficient LED-based diode street luminaires with a high efficiency coefficient. In this way, the old lighting system of the town of Apriltsi and the three settlements in the municipality that are included in the project, which was operating at the beginning of the project, will be brought into line with the currently applicable standards and regulations for street lighting, electricity consumption and costs will be reduced and easier maintenance of the system will be ensured. Until the completion of the project activities, street lighting in the municipality was managed by clocks that turned on/off the luminaires according to a pre-set schedule on a calendar. Maintenance was carried out by people employed in the municipality. The goal of the project is to build and implement an intelligent system for managing and monitoring street lighting.

A street lighting control and monitoring system has been built and implemented. The old and energy-intensive high-pressure sodium lamps have been replaced with new energy-efficient LED-based diode street lights with a high efficiency and durability. New LED lighting fixtures have been installed, which are equipped with a battery and a solar panel. The modular structure of a photovoltaic panel, controller, battery and one LED light fixture are designed and calculated to work as a single system according to the requirements set by the user.

Significant reduction in the electricity consumed for lighting, respectively in the municipality''s costs for its purchase, as a result of the technological renovation and modernization of the outdoor artificial lighting systems - old lighting fixtures replaced with new energy-efficient ones, including with a RES source, as well as the implementation of an intelligent street lighting management system - software.

Summary of bilateral results

Improved bilateral cooperation with interested stakeholders in the field of energy efficiency to present good practices and future development of the city and the municipality in this regard.
