Description

The project “Artistic Workshop” addresses the needs of the Municipality of Radomir to create an ethnically tolerant environment for the development and promotion of cultural initiatives of the Roma minority, using culture and art as a means for developing skills and as a path to education. This will be achieved through the creation of 3 artistic ateliers in the Youth Center of the municipality, where local artists - professionals and amateurs, will be trained in modern techniques in the arts of theatre and dance, and the basics of scenography. A minor renovation will be carried out in the Youth Center itself and new stage equipment will be purchased. Initiatives for exchange of experience and local capacity building will be implemented with the participation of the project partners - KIOPA Institute (Bulgaria) and Artepunkt Scandinavia (Norway). The focus of the project is to promote Roma culture and attract new audiences, which will enhance cultural exchange between communities, social cohesion and overcoming stereotypes. For this purpose, with the help of the partners, an educational campaign will be conducted with an emphasis on Roma culture and a stage performance will be created to follow the journey and cultural development of the Roma ethnic group as well as its influence on the Bulgarian and European culture. Through a synthesis of arts - theatre, singing, dancing, etc., key Roma values, traditions and beliefs will be presented. The project will wind up with a performance tour in the town of Radomir and 4 other peripheral settlements from the administrative districts of Pernik, Blagoevgrad and Kyustendil.

Summary of project results

The Artistic Studio project addresses the needs of Radomir Municipality to create an ethnically tolerant environment for the development and promotion of cultural initiatives of the Roma minority, using culture and art as a tool for skills development and a pathway to education. This will be achieved through the creation of 3 artistic studios in the Youth Centre of the municipality, where local artists, both professionals and amateurs, will be trained in contemporary techniques in theatre and dance, and in the basics of scenography. The Youth Centre itself will undergo a refreshing renovation and new stage equipment will be purchased. Initiatives will be implemented to exchange experiences and build local capacity, which will involve the project partners - KIOPA Institute (Bulgaria) and Artepunkt Scandinavia (Norway).

The focus of the project is to promote Roma culture and attract new audiences, thus fostering cultural exchange between communities, social cohesion and overcoming stereotypes. For this purpose, with the help of the partners, an educational campaign will be carried out with a focus on Roma culture and a performance will be produced, tracing the path and cultural development of the Roma ethnic group and its influence on Bulgarian and European culture. Through a synthesis of arts - theatre, song, dance, etc., key Roma values, traditions and beliefs will be presented. The project will end with a tour including Radomir and 4 other peripheral settlements from Pernik, Blagoevgrad and Kyustendil administrative districts.

The main result from the project was to create an ethnically tolerant environment in Radomir Municipality to promote cultural initiatives of ethnic and cultural minorities (with a focus on Roma) and attract new audiences. This was achieved through the creation of a modern centre for the development of art and preservation of the intangible cultural heritage of Radomir municipality (including Roma culture). The project also promoted cultural initiatives of ethnic and cultural minorities and involved majority and minority groups in cultural projects (incl. skills and capacity development). It also managed to improve access to culture and arts in remote and poorly accessible areas in the municipality.
