Description

Music Art Tabor has a main goal: to increase people''s access to arts and culture,by experimenting with new spaces to open the boundaries between professional and amateur artists and interpretations of traditional topics related to Roma culture. The main activities of the project are: Experimenting with new spaces outside the city center – the outermost districts of Sofia inhabited by Roma and holding of a traveling event/festival. The project is aimed directly the needs and requirements of artists, representatives of minority or ethnic groups and young people. The synthesis of the arts-various artistic and creative events, performances, exhibitions and initiatives will revive the peripheral areas (the extreme districts of Sofia with a concentration of Roma population) by attracting new audiences. A traveling event will improve access to arts and culture and breathe new life into remote smaller towns and villages in northern Bulgaria. The project will contribute to the promotion of cultural initiatives among Roma and improve their access to culture through successful bilateral cooperation and exchange between Association IME Bulgaria and NOPA Norway.

Summary of project results

The main goal of the project is to increase people''s access to arts and culture, by experimenting with new spaces to open the boundaries between professional artists and amateurs and interpretations of traditional themes related to Roma culture.

The main results of the project were in the direction of experimenting with new spaces outside the city center - in areas with poor access to art and culture, namely the outer districts of Sofia, populated by Roma population - Iliyantsi, Fakulteta, Hladilno Depo and Orlandovtsi. The project carried out a traveling event - a three-day festival "Music Art Tabor" in 4 small settlements in three different administrative districts. The tour is dedicated to the music and culture of the Roma, through the music making and production of jazz and ethno rhythms inherent in Roma self-expression and folklore. The festival also includes a screening of educational films with a visual retelling of the history of contemporary art from 1950 to the present, made in collaboration between specially invited artists from Bulgaria and Norway; a workshop on 3D animation and 3D mapping, a course for young people from the region, an artistic and musical performance around the Art Installation created during the festival to revitalize neglected spaces, a musical performance with techno music using ethno motifs and live music with percussion and string instruments - guitar and double bass, wind instruments - saxophone, flute and electronic piano and a singer - with professionals and amateurs, a special workshop for young children and young people, which will be led by musicians from NOPA on the topic of how to make musical instruments from vegetables, a drawing workshop and an exhibition on the last day of children''s works with a prize on the topic of my neighborhood, village, city.

The main success of the project was that Roma were attracted to the overall concept and cooperation with professional performances of percussionists and jazz musicians from Bulgaria and abroad, with one of the main goals being to popularize the diversity and richness of European musical heritage.
