Description

Reducing energy consumption in the construction sector is essential for adapting and mitigating climate change. In the EU, buildings are responsible for +40% of the overall energy consumption and about 36% of CO2 emissions. Almost 35% of EU buildings are built with low energy demand, and around 75% of all buildings are energy inefficient. The aim of the bilateral initiative is to develop a harmonised database and guidelines to systematize relevant criteria for thermal insulation solutions on existing buildings retrofitting and/or for new constructions.

The IST team will actively cooperate with

Summary of the results

The project encompasses four main activities:
• Collection of national and international data - discussion about the available data concerning technical, environmental and economic performance for thermal insulation solutions in buildings (conventional or innovative solutions).
• Development of a database (DB) on Google Forms (PT EN), comprising a dataset of criteria adopted in NO & PT on the use of thermal insulation solutions in building facades, considering relevant performance parameters and climate-related requirements.

• Development of guidelines to support different target-groups in the selection of conventional and innovative thermal insulation solutions to be applied in building’s façades, being them new or existing ones. These guidelines were integrated into a manual and translated into Norwegian and Portuguese.
• Communication and dissemination of project results, including social news, online and in person meetings, participation in 4 conferences (SyMBoL 2021, CEES 2021, CIBW070 2023, ESICC 2023) and the CHePiCC Summer School in Trondheim, a technical visit in Røros, the organization of EFFICACY Final Workshop, with the presence of various target-groups (as researchers, manufacturers, public and private institutions), as well as the joint publication of 4 articles and the supervision of a master’s dissertation.
