Description

International law, including the Lanzarote Convention, stipulate that children have a right to assistance and child friendly justice. However, due to lack of coordination child victims often suffer from delayed and fragmented interventions, which can cause retraumatisation and delay the path to recovery and justice. The overall objective is to promote bilateral partnerships on child protection, child friendly justice and assistance to child victims of sexual abuse, with the specific aim of supporting the implementation of a Barnahus model in Portugal. Summary of the results

Activities:
a) Feasibility study/Situation Analysis: this activity has allowed to identify legislation, procedures, policy, professional standards, good practices, and methodologies to assess challenges and opportunities. b) Study-visit to Barnahus in Iceland, were participants learned about the Barnahus, and how the respective intervention models and practices can respond to the constraints identified in PT. c) roadmap to identify opportunities: the project partners developed an action plan for Barnahus implementation using peer to peer capacity building through international exchange including through digital platforms, practical tools, and webinars. d) Seminar: this activity allowed to disseminate the results of the work developed in previous activities, to present the potential of the Barnahus model and to identify opportunities for implementing the model in PT.

The implementation of the Barnahus model reduces differences between PT and other European countries in terms of the protection of children and young people, contributing to a fairer and more equal global society. This project allowed us to meet key actors of the Barnahus model in Iceland who will be key partners in the implementation of the model in PT. The relationship established with Barnahus Iceland also allowed us to be represented in the PROMISE network that gathers countries that have already implemented the model and aim to build synergies to promote child-friendly justice and intervention across Europe.
