Description

FishNet aims at establishing a solid network in the research field of global change impacts on fish, gathering partners who share scientific interests. It will promote the discussion and the exchange of expertise on anthropogenic related stressors, focusing on noise and temperature increase and how they affect fish. An improved understanding of species’ ability to cope with global challenges is urgently needed for better conservation action plans and for sustainable management of natural resources.

FishNet will bring together researchers from Norway (NOR) and Portugal (PT), with complementary

Summary of the results

The FishNet initiative aimed to establish a strong network in the field of research on the impacts of global change on fish. This initiative promoted discussion and knowledge exchange on the effects of anthropogenic stressors on fish, with a focus on increasing noise and temperature. The FishNet initiative brought together researchers from Norway and Portugal, with complementary expertise in the areas of fish behaviour, ecology, biology, conservation, genetics, evolution and global change. This multidisciplinary team shares an interest in conservation biology, using an established model fish, the two-spotted goby, Pomatoschistus flavescens, which is distributed throughout the North-East Atlantic (NEA) from Portugal to Norway.
The FishNet initiative promoted several activities for the exchange of theoretical and practical knowledge, and allowed the strengthening of scientific collaboration between the institutions involved and between the two countries. This collaboration will be strengthen with joint supervision of students (master and PhD), as well as apply for project calls within the scope of our research interests.
