Summary of the results
The Estrela UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp), in a partnership with Norway''s Gea Norvegica UGGp and Iceland''s Katla UGGp, promoted the ‘Building Bridges - Sharing good practices between UNESCO Global Geoparks'' initiative between 2022 and 2024. Based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, in particular SDG 17, ‘partnerships for the implementation of the goals'', the initiative aimed to formalise relations and closer action between Geoparks that are part of the European network, to approaches in favour of the sustainable development of territories and their communities.
The missions carried out, visits to various points of interest in each of the territories, participation in activities with the communities and the exchange of experiences, contribute to: i) the incorporation of new techniques and practices, helping to solidify and innovate the areas of activity of each Geopark; ii) the implementation of cooperation protocols between Geoparks, helping to create projects in a more fruitful way, exchange ideas and experiences that strengthen the work of each of the territories; iii) the joint application for future European projects and initiatives that can contribute to the objectives of each of the territories.
Through this networking, it was possible to consolidate the UNESCO Global Geoparks brand and to contribute to the definition of strategies that target the most important heritage of each of these territories, their communities.
