Description

Europe needs to raise its aquaculture production, which represents nowadays 18.8 % of the total world production. The control of reproduction and the ecological knowledge of one species are crucial aspects of fish domestication and the formation of a sustainable aquaculture industry. For emerging aquaculture species, challenges in successfully breeding and in high quality gametes can affect the supply of eggs and achieve economic viability.

This proposal is focused on Spotted wolffish, a valuable species in northern Europe, which is commercially produced on a small scale with future expansion

Summary of the results

Through this collaboration, the WOLFFISH initiative was enhancing the performance of the Portuguese research institution CCMAR. Since WOLFFSIH project applied state of art techniques and skills from Norwegian researchers in collaboration with knowledge from CCMAR team, it is expected under this collaboration at least one joint article to be submitted to high impact peer-reviewed journal which will contribute to increase the quality ranking of the Portuguese institution (CCMAR) which is the promoter of the present project, as well as Nord University. Additionally, it was expected the development of the new techniques and services between the beneficiary and donor teams. As a result, there was a reduction of economic and social disparities between Portugal and Norway.

Information on the projects funded by the EEA and Norway Grants is provided by the Programme and Fund Operators in the Beneficiary States, who are responsible for the completeness and accuracy of this information.
