The bilateral initiave proposed the design and implementation of a five-day intensive workshop for 14 journalists – seven from Portugal, seven from Norway - in Évora, Alentejo - a region of Portugal that will be particularly affected by droughts and heat waves in the future.
The journalists will benefit from an immersive experience, away from the newsrooms, spending a full week reflecting and discussing climate and journalism with experts and colleagues.
At the end of the workshop among other results, journalists will be able to:

Summary of the results
This bilateral initiative comprised the preparation and delivery of a climate change training programme for journalists from Portugal and Norway. A total of 48 eligible applications were received: 26 from Portugal and 22 from Norway and 14 journalists – 7 from Portugal, 7 from Norway – were selected and spent a week in-residence at Science Retreats, in Évora –Portugal- attending daily learning sessions from 9am to 5pm. The course programme was specifically developed for this initiative and involved mostly learn-by-doing modules, complemented with lectures from a selected number of guest speakers. Apart from providing skills and knowledge for journalists to better cover climate change, the programme provided a live platform for sharing experiences and discussing climate change and journalism in general. It also opened a channel for further journalism trainning projects between Portugal and Norway, involving Science Retreats (promoter) and the Institutt for Journalistikk (partner).
