The initiative involves networking, exchange, sharing and trasfer of knowledge, technology, experience and best pratices activities between the two world heritage sites, Research activities range from the geology of rock art panel, survey of rock art and related recording methods, development of dating methods adapted to the properties, study of the archaeological context of the rock art, paleoenvironmental evolution of the rock art context through the time, comparison between both rock art site traditions, at the level of the depicted themes, the organization of panels and its location on the
Summary of the results
The activities developed during the bi-lateral initiative have contributed to improve and strengthen the capacity of The Fundação Côa Parque and Alta Museum, both responsible of the management of Cultural Heritage in its natural context, to share and transfer rock art research and management knowledge to different stakeholders. During this exchange it was possible not only to visit some of the rock art sites of each of the groups, but also share experiences, identify common problems and possible solutions to specific problems of each of the sites. But, above all, the bonds that unite the two sites as open-air rock art groups created by hunter-gatherer communities were strengthened and doors were opened for the pursuit of future common projects, both in the scientific field and in the preservation and management of open-air rock heritage. Considering that the results can only be considered accomplished when scientific knowledge is transferred to other rock art Heritage stakeholders, the Alta and Côa conservation strategy and public dissemination of the project''s activities were included and present to colleagues from Europe, northern and southern America, Australia, Asia and Africa, during the 2º Côa Symposium, organized by the Côa Foundation at the Côa Museum 3 and 4/12/2021.
