Description

The aim of the Initiative is to increase the entrepreneurial culture, knowledge and skills of students and young scientists in Poland and Iceland, which will result in improved waste management in food production and processing.

Summary of the results

The project aimed at intensification of processes that would launch new solutions, products and businesses oriented at valorisation of waste generated in the whole food value chain. This activity brought together researchers, government representatives, start-ups, and entrepreneurs specialising in the topics of and adding value to food side streams. The project foreseen curriculum with lectures, practical exercises in entrepreneurship training, study tours to start ups and clusters in utilisation of marine related side products and group work amounting to 4 ECTS university credits was developed and  implemented. Students and young researchers from Poland and Iceland gained skills of „design thinking“, „problem-solving“ and „prototyping“, and worked on their own ideas for innovative paths of adding value to food production/processing side streams. School students were challenged with the real-life problems experienced by Iceland‘s agri-food companies. The massive open online course (MOOC) on utilisation and adding value to food side streams dedicated to students from Poland and Iceland and other parts of the world was delivered within the project, which will be available free on a worldwide EdX platform (https://www.edx.org/) till June 2022.
