Description

The main objective of Initiative was to increase the level of mutual understanding of legal and social context related to child protection and welfare both in Norway and Poland.  The structure of the pilot project is therefore two-fold:  (1) to identify what the research gaps are, and where there is already information available, to collate this; (2) to yield insights of relevance for part (1) of the pilot project, and facilitate dialogue during which cultural differences (and similarities), will be articulated and discussed.

Summary of the results

Two workshops were conducted. One of paramount goals of the workshop was to provide bi-lateral networking opportunities for professionals working in the fields of child welfare, children’s rights, migrant support, which may feed to better support migrant children and families by child protection services in Norway, and other relevant stakeholders and actors in both Norway and Poland. A review report ‘Trust across Borders. A review of the literature on trust, migration and child welfare services’ was written, drawing especially on the Poland-Norway connection. Furthermore the policy brief ‘Building Trust across Borders. Polish-Norwegian exchanges on child and family welfare’, was prepared, it might contribute to increased knowledge about fostering migrants’ trust in public institutions among policy makers, across geographic contexts.
