Description

Tapping into the expertise of Stavanger Museum, being one of the Maritime Museums in Norway, to complement the bilateral components of PDP4 aimed at renovating structures and exhibits of the Malta Maritime Museum, including digitization of the collection.

Summary of the results

Four persons from Heritage Malta and four persons from Stavanger Norway exchanged knowledge and experiences through discussions from an architectural, civil and structural aspect as also any M&E green-design provlslon/s (natural lighting, natural ventilation vs controlled artlfldat environments); what Is the optimal environment that museums deem appropriate to create so as to house the maritime exhibits that are both of an organic and inorganlc nature. Other activities included the conservation measures (both natural and artificial) that were created and finetuned over the years, so as to create the right amblence for the exhibits and if any particular measures were adopted or envisaged as remedies in hindsight. Likewise, Through this initiative HM staff learnt from Stavanger Museum how to build the exhibition and the Maritime Museum to accommodate physical visitors In any unique manner related to the maritime exhibits (both physical and digital). Both sides explored how they are both outreaching for new audiences with different experiences within the museum space.
