Description

Objective: To share experience and knowledge with the creative team of European Capital of Cultural in Bodø and get examples of good practice in designing cultural and social inclusion activities in partnership with local communities.

 Planned activities: On June 22, 2024 Bodø will hold one of its highlights of the year - celebration of Summer Solstice in the event “Midsummer madness”, produced by British company Walk the Plank, which is known for its strong focus on audience participation. Summary of the results

During the visit:

1) strengthened bilateral relations between the representatives of the Bodø 2024 (European Capital of Culture) team, the Ministry of Culture of Latvia, Liepaja 2027 (European Capital of Culture) team (the “Liepāja 2027” foundation) and others;

2) representatives of the Bodø 2024 team, the creators of the Midsummer Madness event (British company "Walk the Plank") and the Sámi Museum shared their experience to the representatives from the  Ministry of Culture of Latvia and Liepaja 2027 (European Capital of Culture) team in creating the content of the cultural program, promoting community involvement and cohesion of local communities. As example, coordinator of the youth program in Bodø 2024 presented the program “yoUNG2024” what is created specifically for young people in order to involve local youth in the creation of cultural content and provide them with the necessary knowledge and support, which could give them a greater sense of belonging to this community. During the visit it was possible also to attend the “Midsummer Madness” event in Bodo and to visit Sami Museum where the Chief Curator of the Sami Museum talked about the recent reconstruction of the museum, which has made it a much more interesting place to visit for the public and guests, and also introduced the recently opened museum exposition on Sami culture;

3) further cooperation opportunities between Liepaja region and Bodo cultural players were discussed.
