Description

The aim of the initiative is to strengthen bilateral relations between Latvia and the donor country Iceland by facilitating the transfer of good practice in promoting innovative and effective public participation, improving cooperation between public administration and non-governmental organizations, thus contributing to the further development of a future democratic state.

Summary of the results

The main results of this initiative include:

  • Bilateral relations between Latvia and Iceland fostered, promoting the exchange of good practices and cooperation. During international conference relations also between other countries strengthened as it gathered participants from 13 different countries.
  • Through cooperation with Iceland, Latvia has gained valuable insights and experience in e-democracy and enhancing public participation.
  • In collaboration, modern and innovative solutions have been developed for effective dialogue between government and civil society representatives, for example, guidelines and prototypes.
  • More effective and systematic model of cooperation between government and civil society NGOs promoted, which is a significant step in the development of a democratic state.
  • Strengthening civil society organizations'' capacity, by participating in the development of planning documents, policy actions, and legislation.
  • Enhancing broader public understanding of the role of civil society and civic participation in a democratic state.
  • Promoting long-term cooperation, encouraging continued collaboration in various formats even after the conclusion of the initiative.

Overall, this initiative has significantly contributed to the development of a more democratic state by fostering bilateral relations, adopting best practices, developing innovative solutions, and enhancing the capacities and participation of civil society organizations in Latvia.
