Description

The main aim of this initiative is to make verified knowledge and understandable common-interest information more easily available to the general public of Latvia and Norway, in the context of misinformation, fake news and propaganda. This will be done through strengthening the competence of the editorial teams of the National Encyclopaedia (NE) and Store norske leksikon (SNL) of Norway. This includes the exchange of editorial policies, workflow methods, best practices and technical solutions, but also an increased understanding of the historic, societal, political and educational context of

Summary of the results

Within the initiative three seminars were held in Norway and Latvia with the participation of editors from the National Encyclopedia of Latvia and the Norwegian Great Lexicon (Store Norske Leksikon, SNL). The main topics were: exchange of the knowledge of the basic principles of the methodology for selecting and preparing the content (articles and illustrations), and (technical) options for improving the editorial platform in the future.
As a result of the initiative the content of the National Encyclopedia of Latvia has been enriched by 59 new articles, 156 photos and 4 maps which are available online, publicly accessible, providing trustworthy expert-created basic information.

The implementation of the initiative initiated the cooperation between the National Encyclopedia of Latvia and the Norwegian Great Lexicon and created the basis for close and long-term cooperation between them. Both editorial offices have acquired new knowledge, exchanged and improved skills. In 2022, when the European Encyclopedia Network was established in Zagreb, the cooperation between the National Encyclopedia of Latvia and the Norwegian Great Lexicon served as an example of a professional and mutually beneficial collaboration. Possibilities for further development projects are also being discussed, possibly involving editorial offices of encyclopedias from other countries.
