Description

The initiative''s objective is to establish a framework with clear guidelines for optimal energy harvesting solutions in Croatian islands. First, the current state of renewable energy harvesting on islands will be analysed.  Islands with good practice will be identified and several islands with the greatest demand and potential will be chosen for in-depth analysis of terrain specifics and meteorological conditions (amount of wind, solar energy, tide potential). The implications of each renewable solution will be evaluated by considering energy output, installation, maintenance cost, and grid

Summary of the results

As part of the initiative, research into possible ways of using renewable energy sources on the Croatian islands was carried out, as well as the identification of associated challenges with the exchange of experiences with the Norwegian partner, which resulted in the report "Analysis of the current situation and the potential of using renewable energy sources on the Croatian islands“. A scientific papers titled "Possibility of sustainable offshore wind energy in Croatia: Transnational Perspectives and Environmental Implications" and " Transnational experience exchange between countries towards speeding up EU renewable transition: example of Norway- Croatia " were prepared and submitted for publication in journals. In addition, Guidelines and Strategies for Islands Based on Existing Best Practices were made. The findings of the initiative were presented at the 10th International Conference on Marine Technology, Winkler in November 2023 and International conference EERA DeepWind 2024 in Trondheim, Norway and final meetings on island Cres and Krk, Croatia in May 2024. The final meetings made it possible to connect scientific institutions with representatives of local communities, associations, organizations and companies operating in the field of renewable energy sources, as well as connecting them with Norwegian partners for the purpose of defining future opportunities for cooperation and bringing scientific institutions closer to the needs of the wider community.
