Description

The initiative aims at fostering bilateral cooperation between Croatia and Norway in the field of sustainable aquaculture and fisheries. The primary objective is to identify opportunities and foster the development of biological by-product management, with focus on upcycling and processing into high-added value products. The initiative will directly contribute to a stronger bilateral cooperation at three levels- research, institutional and economic. Summary of the results

The main objective of the initiative, to identify opportunities and foster the development of biological by-product management, with focus on upcycling and processing into high-added value was achieved through exchange of knowledge and bets-practices during 2 study trips and 2 workshops, one in Croatia and one in Norway.  One of the main results of the initiative was Report of the sustainable management of by-products of the fish industry and aquaculture that was made in collaboration with all partners and external expert. This Report provides defined technical and technological solutions and schematic diagrams for defined efficient production lines together with operation principles and base for related market and economic study for feasibility study and start up in Croatia. Idea was to follow up efficient production needs and open a space for learning and progressing in high value product development to be competitive on the market and create a base for training. At the end of the initiative Bilateral Expert Group for Aquaculture and Fisheries was established to ensure the long-term sustainability of the initiative. Establishment of the Bilateral Expert Group will strengthen institutional relations and contribute to the alignment of practices in the targeted fields, which will facilitate future cooperation between institutions. In total 56 participant from Croatia and 53 participants from Norway took part in bilateral events.
